Ivan Vallejo
Ivan Vallejo is a celebrity. Ivan is one of seven people in the world to climb the 14 eight-thousanders without supplied oxygen. He is one of seven gifted, fearless and amazing individuals in the world that have achieved something so extraordinary it is hard to comprehend and you can’t help it but feel at awe. Ivan is a good family friend.
At a glance, Ivan’s online presence seems to be solid.
But why was a US publisher not able to contact him directly to ask him for permission to have his picture featured in a book?
When you search for Ivan Vallejo in Google you get a wikipedia entry, a few news sites and most importantly his website. Ivan Vallejo’s website is not the best but it is not bad at all. He has an expedition blog, a contact us form, images and his email listed at the bottom. Ivan is relevant online. However, the publisher tried all the above and nothing worked. He resorted to other sites. His search brought him to Ecuador Adventures, which is a blog where we have featured Ivan Vallejo several times. Our blog has a properly implemented contact us form that makes it easy for folks to contact us. Now we are helping Ivan get in touch with the publisher and it looks like Ivan will be featured in the book.
Ivan and the publisher were able to connect only because we happen to have a well run blog and we happen to personally know Ivan Vallejo. Not everyone is that lucky. That’s why when thinking about your personal brand online you have to make sure you open a two way communication channel so that folks can contact you directly. Use twitter or friendfeed or at least set up an email that you will actually check periodically.
You never know which one of your readers will give you your next big break.
