I have decided to start my own Facebook page. It was a decision that didn’t come easy. I needed time to get used to having “fans” on facebook and to the fact that opening up my own page might look rather self-absorved for folks that don’t understand what I am doing, so I decide to share a few reasons why someone should have (or not) a Facebook page for yourself.
There are two main reason why I decided to start Antonio Altamirano’s Facebook page:
- Respect my friends and family facebook personal space — I really wanted to respect their Facebook space and stop the flow of information that was coming through the status updates. See, I was updating my facebook status with Twitter and that annoyed a couple of my close friends. I first set up y profile so they cannot see the updates buy that didn’t seem fair as they want to know about me, but not all the work stuff I tweet about.
- Clarify the relationship — The question in my mind was to whether continue to use my personal facebook account as an outlet for my work content which makes things unclear to the rest of the non-internet marketing, power sharers or super users– that use facebook. By having a Facebook page for me and by blog, I can feel completely sure that folks looking at my page are interested in the business content and in making a connection because of the content.
Why should you have a Facebook page?
- You are a public figure, a hot celebrity a pseudo-politician, a weblebrity or became famous by doing something extraordinary like landing a plane in the Hudson.
- You have a blog and tweet a lot. Spare your friends a headache and stop updating your Facebook status via Twitter if you don’t have some type of filter to choose what goes in there and what doesn’t.
- Your title is social media related.
- You are a brand and want to rock it with your fans in the open.
Please enjoy and I am looking forward to connecting with everyone who reads this blog on Facebook as well as on Twitter.
