A Virtually Untapped Market of One Trillion Dollars, Latinos and Latinas

Numbers speak louder than words. Forget that 81% of latinos microblog or that latinos are probably different than the mainstream business leaders. Don’t pay attention to the fact that mommy bloggers are a huge influence online and that latinas prefer blogging to social networks. Don’t even think about the fact that latinos/as are more brand conscious and become more attached to brands than the mainstream consumer. Forget that we may be the mainstream in a few years. Forget all of that and focus on this:

Wealth depends on your ability to create something from nothing. Paraphrasing Jason Calacanis, creating something from nothing as an entrepreneur is one of the hardest things that one can do and people that are doing it deserve our support. This is the case in any country or culture. It is simply very difficult to get other people to believe in your idea or to understand the need–the fire inside– that pushes you to start something on your own. That’s part of the challenge and great entrepreneurs thrive on it.

The Paradox of Latino Leaders. Are they really different?

The challenge from my point of view is not how to bring our Latino background into the higher ranks of corporate America but how do we create a more balanced, accepting and educated workforce where the strengths of your cultural background can be fully utilized in order to help you grow professionally while achieving the business goals that the job requires.
